Perlite Substrates

“THE IDEAL RATIO OF AIR TO WATER”

Vermiculite Substrates

“improving water uptake and distribution”

Perlite

Perlite is used as an additive to professional substrate to optimize drainage, structural stability, and root aeration. With a few crops, such as anthuriums, perlite is used in its pure form. Perlite provides optimum aeration, improves re-wetting, increases water retention volume, and improves structural stability. As an additive, it offers the perfect conditions, especially for plants that require well aerated substrates. Our perlite is screened to be virtually free of fine
particles and dust that would cause compaction in the substrates during irrigation.

Perlite Properties

Good structure for long period

Chemically inert

High air capacity

High in easily available water

Good drainage

Blended Substrate Constitutes

Various Grades Available

Perlite provides the ideal ratio of air to water, while also improving drainage. It provides excellent results due to its neutral pH and low saturation when compared to other materials. As an additive in substrates will create a growing medium with ideal physical properties. Perlite ensures superior root growth, improved physical structure of substrates, and improved air-to-water ratio and drainage, while also promoting faster root development and growth, which results in better plant establishment.

Vermiculite

Vermiculite is light and porous. The material contains few closed pores, which makes it highly aerated. Vermiculite quickly absorbs water and will improve water uptake and distribution. The pH-neutral nature of vermiculite has a certain buffer-capacity of trace elements which occur naturally within the mineral – mainly presented as magnesium and potassium. These elements will partly be released upon the first application of fertilizer.

Vermiculite Properties

Takes a long time for particles to dry out so the root zone stays wet longer

pH close to neutral

Its sterile nature makes it highly suitable for starting seeds

High water retention

Holds onto nutrients well (high cation exchange capacity)

Vermiculite

Horticultural Grade

Vermiculite is a rock with laminar structure, containing mineral water between its layers. At high temperatures this water vaporizes, causing the material to expand. The layers are pressed apart, resulting in a harmonica structure.
